Bill... the midge larva wasn't the ticket yesterday on the Crooked...a rare 50's degrees day in January... nothing ate at all in the morning, but when things warmed up it was game on. Everything came on the size 18 partridge and orange and a size 16 olive flymph....go figure. The fish were sipping unseen bugs on the surface or maybe some emerging noseeum.... but they were all over the flymph in the film. Not sure when we will see another day that warm around here..

Ron - Were you fishing with a regular fly rod, or still playing around with the Tenkara rod? Keep in mind, that one of the nice things about fishing Tenkara rods in winter time it that they do not have guides (i.e. - no icing problems with the guides and it is easy to fish with either hand, allowing you to keep one hand warm while the other is fishing).

Ray... this day was my 10'6" Cortland 3wt. nymphing rod...which i use almost exclusively when not Tenkara.
That Cortland rod is so versatile, I use it mostly to swing wets, but I can cast dries and weighted nymphs too. True enough with the Tenkara... I have a dinged up right shoulder, so i originally bought the Tenkara to give it a break and fish left handed. But, I have found the cold weather advantages to be more welcomed. Only problem is I can't keep my hand in my pocket long enough to warm up, the darned fish fish won't leave me alone.
