New goodies on the way !
I asked a friend who is a fellow taxidermist in NY, if he had a woodcock in the freezer that he would be willing to part with. Well wouldn't you know it, he had two. So I have a package coming this week with them and he had a starling too, that's was throwing in the box.

Woodcock is on my to get list. Well done.
I just noticed you are from Boulder Mt. My wife has a lot of family that lives there. I miss vacationing there and fishing the Boulder River, Basin Creek and the many small creeks in the area.

Lucky you! I believe there are some subtle differences between the European and North American woodcocks, but not sure what they are (outside of size).Boarmountain wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 5:15 pm I asked a friend who is a fellow taxidermist in NY, if he had a woodcock in the freezer that he would be willing to part with. Some of the same morons who throw their trash around in National parks also vote. That alone would explain the state of American politics. ~ John Gierach, "Still Life with Brook Trout"

Mike,
Did the taxidermist skin the birds our for you, or will you need to do this when they arrive? I would be interested in seeing pics of the birds/skins when they arrive.
Congratulations. You should get lots of use out of these, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

I'll have to skin and wash them. If I have time I can do a step by stepletumgo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 9:27 am Mike,

Mike - As a taxidermist yourself, you certainly have the skills to do a great job processing the skins.

I got the birds, skinned them and got them boraxed. I took pics of the skinning process. As soon as the skins are dry, I'll take a finished pic and get a step by step posted.
They DEFINITELY were not mountable specimens. Pretty shot up and early season birds. But for free I can't complain!
