Silk Color Comparison
Did we have a silk color comparison chart or discussion somewhere? I remember a discussion, but I think it was on thread diameter comparison. I can't remember.
I would like to see if anyone has experience with best color comparisons of Pearsall's to YLI 100 and Kimono 100.

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Re: Silk Color Comparison
I just bought my first spool of YLI silk. It looks great but I haven’t tied with it yet. I’d love to see some comparison pics too.

Re: Silk Color Comparison
I know the YLI100 and the Kimono100 are both a little greater diameter. I don't see a big issue there until one is tying #18's or so. I don't mind, on the small flies, tying with a thin thread like Griffith's 14/0 and then separating the silk into individual strands and tying the bodies like you would floss. In fact, I think it gives a nicer looking fly that way.
I ordered some Kimono100 in colors that seemed close online but with differences in screen and photo calibrations the only way to really check is to buy some and compare.
I also ordered some Ephemera from 54DeanStreet (the address of William Blackers fly shop in London) it just looked to classy too pass up.
I'll take some photos to compare colors when they all come in. I still want to get some YLI as well.

Re: Silk Color Comparison
Awhile back, Rob Smith. posted some info on the Pearsall to YLI 100 colors, to which I then added another color or two.
The info is a little confusing & I'm too lazy to redo it but here goes (Pearsall #8 Purple is YLI #244 Eggplant):
YLI No. Vintage Pearsall No.
216 = Hot Orange (19) – Bright Orange
231 = Gold (6A) – Bright Apricot
261 = Primrose (3) – Buttercup
214 = Lemon Yellow (4) – Daffodil Yellow
244 = Purple (8) – Eggplant ,
213 = Straw (2) – Pale Yellow
258 = Claret (14) – Dark Purple
? = 6B
241 = Golden Olive (11) – Dull Gold
201 = Scarlet(11a) – Bright Red
208 = Blue (7) – Ocean Blue
232 = Grey (9A) – Light Blue Grey
? = Dk Claret(15) – ( 248 – Magenta or 267 – Burgandy )
? = Olive (16)
BLK = Black (9) – BLK
WHT6 = White (1) - WH

Don't mention the Ephemera silk to a certain spider expert. The guy who sells it did to his everlasting sorrow.

Re: Silk Color Comparison
I had some Kimono 100 come in yesterday. I was off on a couple colors but think I hit the primrose nicely. I'll tie with it in a couple days. It appears a little finer diameter than the Pearsall's.

I bought some of the Ephemera from 54DeanStreet too. Since it came from Italy, it did take a while. I did find a better price if you are interested. I thought shipping was kind of high from 54DeanStreet too. If I shouldn't mention it, just delete my post.

I've ordered from Aaron for quite a few things. I just noticed a couple days ago that he had the Ephemera. The price is not bad and you can order individual spools. I ordered the whole collection from MC Feathers. It just arrived today.
