This is a pattern I have tied since reading Sly Nemes books years ago. It is a meaty pattern but seems to fish well for caddis and some terrestrials.

Hackle is partridge dyed dun
Abdomen is peacock ribbed with silver
Thorax is kid mohair dyed black

Seems that partridge and peacock herl are common components of many time-tested successful flies. This probably is not coincidence. A very nicely tied fly, Carl, that has "the look".

I like that pattern! Anything with peacock always seems to do well.

I tied up as couple to test out West with me.

I've often wondered what it is about peacock that is so appealing to fish. Is it the movement, the iridescence, the color, or is it just all of above in one package?

Partridge, I'm pretty sure is the contrasting mottling that stands it apart form most of the other hackle.

Carl - What make/model hook is this tyed on? Is that a limerick bend?

I also believe that it traps air bubbles.

Whatever it is, it's certainly one of those miracle materials (of which there are very few.)
