10 years in the making! Lol!!!
This fly was inspired by my favorite Parrot affectionately known as Morgie or sometimes the Morganimal. He’s our baby, a 10yr old Green Cheek Conure. Morgie has been willingly donated a lot of feathers over the years and I’ve stored them in zip lock bags. I’ve never tied with them but with his permission tied a fly entirely out of his feathers tonight
Hook partridge 12 sproat nymph
Thread nanosilk
Tail- barbs off one of Morgan’s tail feathers
Abdomen and thorax - Morgan’s filoplume? (fluff off the base of the feathers)
Hackle-didn’t ask him where it came from, guessing the wing or his back
Here’s to 10 glorious years (sometimes challenging) and hopefully another 30+ to go
Sorry for including the soft and backlit images, I get bored taking technical photos and it’s refreshing to sometimes focus on taking photos you enjoy because their imperfections make them perfect. Lo fi, lit by window light late in the day, fly sitting on a mobile phone screen, hand held... I personally really like the last one even tho it’s all soft and fuzzy...

Awesome! The collar hackle looks like waterhen dyed olive green and one of those mahogany tail barbs would make a spectacularly segmented body if wrapped like herl. Thanks, Karstern, for sharing your creativity and tying/photography skills. Thanks to your bird pet as well for the donations.

Thank you all for your kind comments, I’ll pass them onto Morgie too, he’s come out of his bed cage to run amuck today and have his morning cuddles.
Bill, it’s funny, I had the same thought at the time I was tying in the tails, very short fibre tho, maybe if I space the wraps a little over a thread underbody? I’ll experiment and share the results...

K, That's an excellent looking fly. That emerald green hackle is very pretty against the grey dubbed body of that fly... good stuff!

Nice Karsten.
I think green is under estimated and this shows why.
A very handy looking fly.
I'll order a dozen in 3 sizes thanks and leave you to give Morgie the news .

How hard can it be?

Cheers Eric
Premerger- Passed ur request onto the Morganimal, his response was;
He doesn’t donate feathers for strangers, u should know that Tim
I can’t wait to tie a few more and give them a swim...
