Bob White and Primrose
A simple twist to a classic soft hackle. Bob White quail instead of Partridge. Hanak H 300 BL size #16 hook.

I like that one a lot. Has all the colouration and profile of a real fish catcher.
Is that natural primrose, or is there some wax involved?
I wonder if the black hook shank colour might "bleed" through when the silk becomes wet.

That quail hackle looks really "lively". Nicely done.

I'm digging that hackle too. Very lively. The effect of the wet silk over the black shank might be just what you were going for, but it's always good to give them a dunk on the tying table. Beautiful fly. I'd fish this one all year.

A little large and that would be perfect for some Epeorus hatches I have fished.

When wet, the fly does turn a lovely olive shade. I found in my dyeing of materials that the easiest way to get olive was to add a little black to a yellow dye pot. Same idea here.
I fish lots of black hooks out of my stash of vintage hooks and modern hooks that are black. A lot of my soft hackles are on TMC 102Y or TMC 206 BL since both of these are black.

Great pattern. I have a bobwhite skin and there are some really nicely colored feathers on it. Nice small bird too with smaller feathers.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Lovely fly, Charlie. I enjoyed reading your comments about the body color. Well designed and thought out combination.
