Red Wet

I tied a half dozen of these up yesterday morning, and I couldn't get a one of them to look remotely good. Fish worthy yes, but nothing I would want to share. The weather will start to cool here in the coming month, and I always like to have a few Red PT Soft Hackles for Fall fishing. The resident Brown trout love em regardless of hackle variety.

Lovely. What dubbing material did you use for the thorax? Is that some of the Fly Tying Dungeon peacock blend?

Thank you Ray. Yes, the dubbing is a mix. 75% Red 25% Peacock "Wee Folk" dubbing from Fly Tying Dungeon

Two thumbs up from me!

Now, if I could order a couple of dozen #18, or maybe a dozen #18 and a dozen #20, I would be well kitted out for the mayfly spinner falls locally.
After the second moult when the duns become spinners, they become a rich rust/burgundy colour and I usually tie imitations as a "film" fly with organza material wings tied spent. I do believe this pattern would cover that "hatch" very well on the middle reaches of the Mataura.

Thank you, Wayne -- thank you! You have given me a good idea for how to finally use the dyed red starling skin I purchased on a whim some time ago. What, may I ask, did you use for the thorax on this ravishing ruby rascal?

Bill thorax is 75% Red 25% Peacock "Wee Folk" dubbing from Fly Tying Dungeon. Ice Dub, or antron would work the same way. Heck, Red Peacock herl would work just as well. There is a 2 to 3 week window this Fall where these type patterns work very well on the Roaring Fork for Record (State) Whitefish and trout.

Hank, it is just a Red Pheasant tail tyed with Red Pheasant tail feathers, ribbed with Red wire. The thread is UTC70 Wine
