Just a bit of playing about. Perhaps it will fish great, perhaps it will prove to be a dud 8-)

Blackhead Purple
Hook: Tiemco 102Y #15
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, grey
Hackle: Hackle barbs, dyed purple
Rib: Narrow purple plastic strip from produce bag, corded
Abdomen: Mink underfur, light dun
Thorax: Mink underfur, tan
Head: Ostrich herl, black

What do you guys/gals think? :roll:

I like it! Scale it up to a size 4 and you'd have a killer steelhead fly.

YOU TALKED ABOUT THIS PATTERN BEING A DUD.....NOT ON MY WATERS. MY SPECKLED DARLINGS ARE QUITE FOND OF PURPLE. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PATTERN TIED WITH SUCH GREAT CARE AND PRECISION. ONCE AGAIN HANS, YOU CONTINUE TO ASTOUND US!

Not exactly the same fly, but quite similar...I saw a guy whacking the daylights out of Lake Erie steelhead last year with a purple soft hackle fly. So much so...that the bait fishermen were begging him what he was using! :lol:
