GD Flymph
After looking at photos, planning a weekend out to hit Penns Creek and live in the truck for a weekend to try and catch this bug I sat down at the bench and came up with a little something. It looks nice, hope it fishes well.
Mats:
Thread: Tan uni 8/0
Hook: TCO nymph hook, size 10.
Tail: Yellow mallard.
Body: The fluffy plumage from the base of the mallard feather.
Thorax: A mixture of golden brown/olive angora goat dubbed heavy and picked out a bit.
Hackle: Pale yellow generic speckled hen back.
I couldn't find anything I had to make the body of this fly look semi realistic but, the plumage seems to fit the bill. I like it. Just hope those big brownies do too.
Re: GD Flymph
I like it a lot. I bet the fish will too!

Hank, exactly why they call dogs a man's best friend.
Smuggler, that is a really nice mixture and a neat looking fly. The duff from the bottom of the Mallard feather should "pulse" and give an added life to the fly in any slight current or small twitch on the line.
I like it.

Really cool pattern. Kinda reminds me of a Tabou Caddis I use, but better looking!
Re: GD Flymph
Very nice "gill" effect, Smuggler -- this looks eminently fishable. Hope you have good luck hitting the G.D. event, which will probably be early this year. Where on Penn's do you camp ... Poe Paddy?

I liked your pattern/technique so I copyed it and tyed a couple Soft Hackles using your fly as a guide.

I'm going to copy some of these too. The coloration/shades/subtle contrast are just the right notes and the nature of these materials mobility should do just the trick. Well done and thanks for making this easy for the rest of us. Enjoy Penns.
