I'm going crazy...

Post by fflutterffly » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:18 am

so what else is news! I realize that Tenkara is not wet flies or Flymphs, but I have been tying them like crazy for the trip to Montana in April. One thing I've done is added a "hot spot" to many of the flies. Another thing I do is place the hook eye in the vise instead of the bend, being careful not to stress it. It facilitates the ease of "parachuting" the hackles over the eye for me. I know it's a sloppy tie, but it's my first attempt at hot spotting this type of fly and I did all the steps backwards beginning with the hot spot.

fflutterffly, Howdy;

Why not use stright eyed hooks. Then you can clamp on to the top & bottom of the eye
and you won't be stressing the hook or yourself... ;) :? :) :)

because this is the only hook I have for learning. I want to keep my nice hooks for the wet and flymphs. As you can see it isn't really all that clean. However, the more I've tied the cleaner they are getting. I've even tried placing a little tinsel (air bubble) at the thorax, just behind the hackle. I think that will be killer as well. I'm tying them for Karen even though I said I wouldn't. Got to get back to the wets. I see some of the flies hans, soft and ginger are showcasing from them selfs and others. Wow!

Boy oh boy you really got bit by the Tenkara bug huh :P Maybe I should stay away then! Like I need to start a new hobby and end up collecting more types of rods :lol:

Have any success with Tenkara?

smuggler I didn't bring that thing into the house. It came in like an abandoned puppy. Karen brought it with all the enthusiasm of a virgin at her first frat party!!!! So I'm not stepping on that! I've been trying for years to get her to really study fly casting et al, but this is the first time she has tried to teach me, so I'm all guns.

I like the idea of putting the eye in the hook. I'll have to try that.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.
