In the movie A River Runs Through it, what knot is tied at the beginning and the end of the movie?

i guess it's because i HATE knots so much that i just can't answer that..........lol............and i have the movie and have watched it probably 20 times or more. But if i had to guess.....i'd say an improved clinch......just a guess. Especially with the importance of dry fly fishing in the family.

rotflmao..........thass some funny ****............me and Misa took a tyin' class with Gary and Jason once, at Somerset..............and the first thing he did in the class was show off. He demonstrated how fast he could thread the shank of a hook by holding the thread (tag end), as a quide against the wraps and letting each successive wrap force itself right up against (next to), the previous one.............i think we all knew that already............. ...........he did do it amazingly fast though. that class was a great class though........."Designing Trout Flies."

i just realized what it is............maybe?........and it depends on if they were being true to the times, in the movie. There is no mention of it in Shadow Casting. But, if they WERE being true to the times..........it would of been a Turle knot, which is what was used back in those times, when gut leaders were part of the terminal tackle of the day. It was my Catskills upbringing (in fly fishing & tying), that forced it to suddenly dawn on me. i should of thought of it when i first thought of dry flies.

Howdy All;

Think I've read/heard that the turle is ok if one has either an UE or DE hook but not so good on SE hooks.

Anyone care to comment/care to share ???

Hank, Turle knots are not used anymore for the most part. It was a knpt that requires a bit of the shale (bout a 16th of an inch) to left bare right in front of the head, because the gut leader had to be partially attached there. While there may some rare and very strange lol.....folks who still use gut leaders.....but it's basically a thing that has properly faded into history. i spose drivin' around in a Model T Ford would be kinna cool for a day or two..........but i'll take the Maseratti any day of the week...............you dig?
