Muskrat from heaven

Post by NightWatchman » Sat May 21, 2022 9:05 pm

Was out yesterday walking my dog in a nice pasture field and a large red tail passed overhead
with something in her talons . She flew maybe 20 yards passed me and the small bundle she was carrying
dropped to the ground . Denver and I scurried over and found a freshly killed kit muskrat ! Pennies from
Heaven ! Skinned the creature last night and is now cleaned, dried and salted. The underbelly is a very soft
Light grey fur and the back is brown but has far fewer guard hairs that are usually found on an adult. Does anyone
have a pattern that they like using with this softer tone fur ?

:D What a great post. Mana from heaven.

My first impulse is to tye some muskrat nymphs, Adams dries and some zonker streamers. Covers a lot of bases. Muskrat is very useful and versatile material.

Dear NW,
You were in the right place at the right time! Yes, you were being blessed with Muskrat from Heaven! I have to agree with Ray and the patterns he suggested! Muskrat in general and particularly kit is excellent stuff to tie with! Enjoy every morsel and show us what you can do with this new found (given) treasure!

Talk about being blessed. It's almost like the bird gave you the muskrat. I have hawks flying around my house all day long and have never had one drop anything I could use.

Pennies from heaven. Once had an osprey drop a fish pretty close to me.
