I tye a very similar version, but use course/spiky hare mask dubbing. Back home in the Adirondacks, we found this to be a very effective pattern in early spring, fished deep as the ice was leaving the ponds. Trout would be gorged on caddis pupa.
I could have used a couple of these yesterday. Fish were hugging the bottom. Would have been fun to bounce one of these along to see if the drum (sheephead) would suck it up. They are tough to catch.
