Never got around to asking about the other types of fishing that is done over younder.
Have heard (read), of the trotting, and ledgering, also the sling-shot your bait to the unsuspecting fish ...
just never got 'round to asking about it on fly fishing forums... silly me.

Mike - I fish for steelhead using a 13 foot rod, centerpin reel and trotting method. It is called "float fishing" locally (western New York). Extremely effective technique for fish with subtle takes.

It's called 'Float fishin' alot of other places other than Western N.Y. State.
Also known as bobberin', corkin', tatteltailin'. Some catfishers even put mini light
sticks on the tops for night fishing.
I used to have a 10' fly rod that I'd use for 'float fishin' for crappie and bluegills.
had an underspin reel on it. Liked to use waggle type slip floats made by Mick Theil's old co. (sp?).
