Here's another tip for not getting hackle trapped under your wraps. Wrap your hackle, do two wraps of your thread then use a half hitch tool to push the hackle to the rear. Grab the hackle with your fingers and form the head. Then do your whip finisher. If you still have a fiber or so you can use one of those cauterizer's to burn them away.
