Karsten,
Sooo good to hear from you in your beautiful country down under. We are just flabbergasted by the immense and all consuming fires that have run out of control! It is good to know that you and your family are safe. Please keep us posted on all that happens! We are genuinely concerned!
I knew that Skues tied nymphs (and dries et al) differently than the general convention of the day. I simply did not know how that was accomplished for I am awash in tradition. It is good that you have sought out and figured out his method of tying! You have done well and researched much!
For the links above gentlemen, a sincere thank you to all! Now, it's time to read, read, read! "Tis the season for learning and discovering! Thank you for that!
From the Den,
Dougsden

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

Karsten, I would be jealous of your competence as both a tier and photographer but have learnt to accept my shortcomings. This way I feel comfortable.fly_fischa wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 4:09 pm Thank you all for the kind comments.
DD you’re just jealous I have the deluxe model instamatic
Carl you are right I did use that approach, it’s also my fav method of the two. I Shared a pattern with a friend who googled the pattern and found a post of yours in the fly tying forum where I left a comment back in 2009, we’ve known each other for a while my friend
Ray, thanks for asking re the fires, heartbreaking stuff. We aren’t directly affected so to speak our place is safe. Devastating to think 2million acres burnt in the California fires and 12.7million acres have burnt and are still burning in OZ, gives some perspective. I read this sad and heart wrenching tweet by Phillip Adams ;
‘ kangaroos are laying down and dying in the garden. Unharmed by fires they’re simply giving up - like scores of beautiful old trees that have shaded the homestead for many decades. Drought is a bushfire in slow motion’
WSBailey thanks for the links and additional info, although his stance changed and he was more into tying short hackled soft hackles and abdomens that’s focused on translucency. I still like to tie and fish flies with a wing case too
We have had fires getting out of hand the last few years here too. Not this big, but desperation was felt here too. I cannot imagine what it feels like in your country right now. Seems as if your head of state can't either .

We have beautiful sunsets here at home across “the ditch” as the Tasman Sea is called. But it’s because of the bushfires over there in Aus. The smoke in the sky...A stark reminder every night....
