Do not know, never tried it.

I tried it just now and that was a good idea: they glow as never!

This pattern is amazing! I am glad you like the hooks and squirrel dubbing! The fly looks alive! Your dubbing work is awesome! Swellcat, great picture of our friend, the fox squirrel! I have a truck load of them in the woods below my house (the squirrels not the pictures) but rarely hunt them anymore. As a dish, they are o.k. and I don't want to bean them just for their spiky dubbing. It's true, I have folks around me that would appreciate a "mess of squirrels" so that's not a valid reason I guess! When September and October come around, my heart and mind are on the water instead. Shame on me perhaps.
Ruard, the roach that you pictured is amazing! It looks like it could give your 4 weight a tussle and did you say that you can catch them all winter long? I do the same thing with bluegill! The only thing that keeps me off the water during our brutal winters is the ice! Someone once asked me why I don't like ice fishing and I told them that it's so hard to get my flies (even heavy weighted nymphs) thru the ice. They turned away looking perplexed! Sorry ice fisherman!
The light bead is interesting too! The pattern looks pretty simple to tie and sure does a great job on the fish in the canals of your lovely Holland!
I am going to try a simple translation of "Dougslichtjesnimf". Dougs light nymph or Dougs lighted nymph! How did I do? Am I now officially Dutch?
I am always amazed at what comes from your talented hands Ruard!

Hi Doug,

If the canals have a surface of ice I too have to stop fishing, but otherwise we we fish all winter with an average of one time a week.

I would translate DougsLichtjes nymph: DougsLumi nymph.

I use the jighook as a pointfly to have less hangups on the bottom. The Roach was about 30 cm and I think it is a Hybrid between a Roach and a Rudd.

Wow! This is exciting! Dougslichtjesnimf really did the trick on the roach/rudd hybrid. Is this a good thing? The cross breeding of the two species? That is a really nice sized fish Ruard! 30 cm. Very nice!
Speaking of weather and ice on the water....we are expected to have some below average temperatures next week and our ponds are on the brink of freezing over real soon just as your canals have done. In fact, the whole country is experiencing some early season cold weather and snow. These sorts of things really cut down on our fishing time and pleasure. Oh well, back to the den and tie flies instead!
