After looking at the Shetland wool colors I have on hand I couldn't resist.
Hook: Edgar Sealey and Sons, Pennel's Limerick, Size 10
Thread: Black Danville's 6/0
Tail: Fibers from English Red Grouse tail feather
Body: Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift Wool, Grouse, color #235
Hackle: English Red Grouse neck feather.

I really hope the colors of this wool come through. It's incredible.

I really like tying with wool. Lots of colors/variations, nice to work with, AND available most anywhere. Really nice tie, like the body color.

I love tying with grouse feathers – they are one of my all-time favorites. And, you have an excellent taste in hooks!! Those Sealy Pennels are really really strong, durable irons...... just look at that Barb!

What kinds of wool do you usually tie with? I picked up some wool they make those knit slippers with because it floats. However, I have never tried other kinds of wool. Where do you find the patterns for these wool flies? Because I don't have the hackle you used I would use Hungarian partridge that should go with the wool you used.

Tim, I’m really fond of alpaca and mohair wool. Kid mohair is great stuff. Bill Bailey has some super dyed colors of mohair and kid mohair.

Tim, some of that very wool yarn is on it's way to you, along with 4 other colors. As far as the pattern, I made it up. I just figured that a wool yarn named Grouse had to go with English Red Grouse feathers. Turned out pretty good.

I still have to dunk it into the tank and see how she looks wet.

I have a small supply of some older hooks that I drag out now and again for special flies. I thought this might be one.

Thank you, Carl, for the ideas. I have mohair and have tied with it, I can't recall the fly I used it on as a substitute for another material which I didn't have at the time.
