capercaillie hen for fly tying
Hi into the round of experts.
I got two capercaillie hens from a hunter friend. Very interesting feathers for fly tying I think. Anybody having an idea which patterns these traditionally where used in?
Thanks for the input beforehand.
Cheers & tight lines,
TZ

Could you post a picture of the skin? I’d love to see the range of feathers the skin offers.

I've never heard of any traditional patterns with them but they look to have some great duns, browns and "peacock" color feathers on the cock birds.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Wow! That is a beautiful bird skin. There is a wide range of uses for the feathers on this bird, ranging from small wet flies (soft hackles/flymphs/NC spiders/Tenkara kebari), winged wets (using the primary feathers), and
full dress streamers (cheek feathers)...
Get busy and show us what you can create.
Thanks for posting the photo. I'm not on Facebook, so would not have seen it otherwise.

Howdy All;
Decided t do the google bit just to satisfy my curiosity as to just what the heck one of these
birds looks like. Looks like you have a difficult time missing one that's for sure.
