Thanks Roadkill I do the same with hare and copper ties which are similar but different, prefer the old school look of oval tinsel on the GRHE.

Dana that sounds like a real find m8! I've never seen it that fine, sounds amazing. I once found a shop that had a bargain bin and was literally trying to give away the old oval tinsels in Silver and Gold. I bought the entire stash for a song.

I much prefer it to standard wire, gives just the right amount of glint and more of a 3d look, Prince nymphs tied with a silver looks so sexy, especially when you use black ostrich. I often use a few strands of ostrich with a couple of strands of peacock herl twisted in a dubbing loop, incredible fly, I may have to tie and post one if I remember...

I have enjoyed fishing Hare and Copper variations since 1987 after I picked them up in New Zealand. Great fly for even more weight than I put in the GRHR.

Karsten, it must be almost impossible to beautify a GRHE more than this.

Twisting two, or more, strands of wire brings an effect to a fly that a single wire never achieves. Sometimes that can be a bonus, but not always. Two different shades of copper on a Hare and Copper can be nice. Preferably close but different.

Your GRHE is perfect! Your version is the way I want mine to look! I also like the dampened versions you have photographed! I love the haloed effect of the outer guard hairs allowing the gold rib to "shine through" just right! Very well done Karsten and we look forward to other classics you may have in the works! A really good looking nymph!

I love the way this fly looks. Perhaps you could give the recipe. The hook looks some what longer then standard hooks.

Hi Alan,
This one was tied quite a while ago but I’m pretty certain I remember the materials list.

Dubbing is hares ear off the mask, mainly hares poll.
Hook was a tmc 9300 sz10
Thread wine coloured 6/0 uni
Hares fuard hair for the tail
French large gold oval tinsel for ribbing
Wingcase of turkey tail

Truly enjoyed seeing your GRHE. Stunner. Ran into a problem with the recipe.
Your use of the term "Hares fuard hair", caused me pause. So, I turned to Uncle
Google, as we have been trained to do and found it to be nothing but simple
Guard hairs. Which made perfect sense when viewing the fly itself. But, your
use of a term that isn't common was an enjoyable experience and I learned
something new (to me). So, thank you kind sir for 2 X's the the pleasure in one
posting. , .
