Winged Larva Lace

This is my 21st Century version of the 1855 emerger Winged Larva contained in Blacker's Art Of Fly Making as mentioned in the Forum thread on ("Emergers" in 1895?).

If you have some "shrivelled larva" from the end of some Salmon Gut in your materials you may tie in a more historic fly Larva.

Ron that was a fun time on the Central Oregon waters in your backyard!

It didn't even occur to me to put one of this fly on in the midst of the fish rising for egg laying caddis. The caddis dries I had on were getting their attention. And I was busy concentrating on the timing and drift across the river from my ledge.

Ron, by the way is too modest to point out that he landed the fish of the day...

Bill - I've always admired your creativity/adaptability, when it comes to fly tying. Well done, sir. And thanks for sharing a picture of Ron, on the stream. Nice to have a face, to go along with the screen name.

oh man I miss that water and those fish.

Bill, in Stalcup's book he talks about heating forceps and then pinching the tubing. I've done it and it makes great ribbing in the tubing or D-rib. just an idea.

Ray, Now that my face is out there and the system didn't crash, I guess I could add an avatar to my profile.
That fish was a nice one... came from the Metolius in a spot called the "idiot hole"... because the fish make you feel like an idiot most of the time...the picture doesn't do the fish justice or the spot. Caught that beauty on 5x, with my 10'6" nymphing 3wt. I was sure that fish would rub the tippet on the lava rock ledge in front of me before I could get him to the net. Having Roadkill there to verify and record the event will make it a memorable one for me.
