Pete Hidy Appreciation
Chose to mount some of the Hidy flymphs I've tied up this year into Magnetic Card holders. These are for baseball cards and such. The thick #180 works great. I used x-small glue dots to hold the flies securely. I finished up with 4 sets and caught myself admiring not the flies themselves but the way Hidy used color in these 12 patterns from "Famous Flies and Their Originators", 1972. There are some specific dubbing mixes in this bunch. Seen together you can really appreciate the intricate thought from Hidy that went into the dubbing mixes and how they interact with the thread and hackle color to form some beautiful emerging mimics of specific insects. When you look at them separately it is difficult to appreciate the pattern selection.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Excellent work, Carl. I'd have to tie 500 flies to get 12 of that quality. I am totally stealing your idea though. Do you have a good source or did you just Amazon it?

Right on the money as some of you use to express it. This is beautiful and educational. Thank you very much for this post.Old Hat wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 6:04 pm Seen together you can really appreciate the intricate thought from Hidy that went into the dubbing mixes and how they interact with the thread and hackle color to form some beautiful emerging mimics of specific insects. On a scale of one to ten, this set is an eleven...
Seeing them all together like this is a real treat.

Beautiful! Wondering what is the fly at the bottom right?
