Ron - I have a tool which will magnetize/demagnetize tools as needed. When I get home, I will take a picture and post it here.

I intentionally magnetized the blades of my tying scissors. My scissors are in my hand, constantly when I am tying. I never set them down. I use the scissors for multiple purposes (cutting; picking out dubbing; burnishing silk bodies; controlling a thread loop when whip finishing by hand; and grabbing hooks). Having the magnetic tip allows me to retrieve hooks directly from their packaging, or storage boxes, without having to reach for a pair of tweezers. I've done this for many many year, and have found magnetized scissors to be a very helpful "feature".

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm glad you find these little tutorials of interest.

Ray,

Great SBS!!

You should peg this at the top of the tutorials for visitors and beginners to find it easily in the future.

Excellent SBS sir. One question; is 'hare's pol' the fur taken from a mask above, and between the eyes, down to the nose? I looked through several of my books and can't find any reference. I want to make sure I harvest from the correct location on my hare's mask.

This is a great tutorial, so let me add my thanks. I'm checking in to getting 1 of those dubbing blocks. I do have a few questions:

1. Where does 1 acquire such a dark partridge skin?
2. This may open a can of worms, why do you prefer to tie in your partridge
by the thick part of the stem (instead of by the tip)?

Thanks again- Ken

Ken - This partridge skin is very dark, with lots of deep brown tones in the fibers. I might’ve bought this skin from Beaverkill Angler shop in Roscoe. Everytime I see partridge skins, I look thru them all, hoping to find one with bold markings. I got lucky with this one.

I have a personal preference for tying soft hackle feathers in by the center stem. Fortunately, these partridge feathers have fairly slender stems, which are very soft and pliable. Other folks prefer to tye game hackle in by the smaller tips. Both methods work...

JDW22 - Yes. The poll area is the small region at the top of the rabbits head, between the ears. The region is about the size of a silver dollar.

John - Very impressive, considering that is also your mouse hand. :D ;)

Really well done SBS, Ray. And nice job showing the "block".
And John - nice to see I'm not the only one using Fiskars scissors and that type of hackle pliers. Although I don't keep that many tools in my hand at once. :D (I'd probably just hurt myself)

Yeah, another magnet man :-) I also have those small magnets pretty much everywhere.

How can I upload images?
