Materials:
Hook - Partridge Czech Nymph Hook (barbless) - Size 10 (formerly size16)
Thread - 6/0 UNI-Thread (Dark Brown)
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge (natural/brown phase)
Underbody/Tag - Silver Mylar Tinsel
Body - Kreinik Single Strand Silk (No. 2244/Golden Bronze)
Wingcase/Flash - Silver Holographic Flashabou (two strands)
Thorax - Five Strands of Peacock Herl (reinforced in a thread loop)
Head - Tying Thread
Tying Steps
Mount Hook and secure thread with five wraps, just behind the eye of the hook.
Select a hackle feather and prepare it by stripping off the base fluff.
When working with curved hooks, it is easier to flip the fly over in the vice and form the body with the hook point upwards. It's much easier to work around the bend and avoid snagging the tinsel and silk on the hook point.
Kreinik Silk - Wish they still sold this silk. Great stuff for little soft hackle flies.
Secure the silk in place.
Wrap the silk down and back, leaving a small tinsle tag.
Add two strands of holographic flashabou along the back of the thorax region.
Tye in five strands of peacock herl along the back of the thorax region.
Form a thread dubbing loop and then twist the herl into a chenille.
Wrap the peacock chenille forward.
Pull the strands of flash forward and wrap down. Pull back and split into a vee. Trim off at the lenght of the tinsel tag.
Wrap the hackle (two turns), then tye off and form a neat head. Clip off the thread and your done.
Repeat...
This is the way I tye the POP series of flies. I spent some time tying some with a bronze bodies today, and figured it was time to do POP tutorial.
