Yellow and partridge variation

The good ol yellow and partridge is my top go to fly since I started primarily fishing soft hackles in my early 20's. It has been by far my favorite way to catch trout since then.

Hook: TMC 2457 scud size 12
Thread: danville's 6/0 pale yellow
Body: danville's 300 denier nylon yellow
Thorax: ice dub pheasant tail
Hackle: light brown partridge

Simple tie and I just know it will put fish on my line, got to love that feeling.

I can understand why this pattern consistently puts a bend in your rod -- well proportioned with just the right sized thorax and enticing hackle. Good photos show it off well.

Dan - It is nice to see you back at the vice. This is a great looking soft hackle. I like the tying choices in your design. The curved hook is a nice foundation, and the pheasant tail colored thorax harmonizes well with the yellow body and hackle. Very nice proportions too.

Yup...definitely a confidence pattern!

Hey, are you tying on a Danvice? I tied on a Danvice for many years, and absolutely loved it.

More often then not when I tie up some yellow and partridges, I'll use the dannville's yellow nylon and most of the time I'll use a light color superfine dubbing for the thorax or no thorax at all. Also when I do smaller sizes sometimes I'll just add a clump of hackle fibers to the head of the fly. I go through these quickly because the trout tear up the hackle, but I do a lot of variations and I will use different types of feathers with the yellow body other then partridge (then I guess it's no longer a yellow and partridge). That's awesome fly fish food did one just like how I do mine. I check out that web site from time to time but I had not seen that tutorial yet. Thanks for posting that.
