Neat variation on Jack Gartside's Sparrow, for those spawners coming up from Hebgen Lake. Name came from a pheasant that came out on the wrong end of an encounter with a coyote.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #8
thread - UTC 140 burnt orange
rib - small wire copper
undertail - Congo Hair tan
tail - pheasant tail
abdomen - dubbing rusty orange
underwing/shroud - Congo Hair tan
thorax/head - pheasant aftershaft
hackle - pheasant rump

mash barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap to point above point

Image

measure (tips to bend) a clump of CH; tie in/wrap to 2/3 mark

Image

measure (hook length) some PT fibers; tie in/trim butts

dub thread/dub abdomen

counterwrap rib; helicopter end, cover with thread

pull CH back surrounding body; tie down/trim

Image

Image

select a couple aftershaft feathers; split thread, insert, spin bobbin

Image

moisten fingers and stroke fibers back; take a few wraps

Image

Image

tie in (folded) hackle by tip; wrap forward, stroking fibers back, tie off/trim

Take a few more wraps of aftershaft in front; whip finish, SHHAN

Scott,

Your tutorials are top notch, and your tying is very efficient. Superbly done, as always. Thank you for sharing another "fishy" pattern. Very much appreciated. ;)

ScottP, Howdy;

Beautiful, simply ... beautiful. Whenever I see this quality of work I wish i started tying at a
very much younger age then I did. So much to learn and me on the short end of the stick ...

Thanks for sharing this.
