Grouse and Goose Twist Softhackle

Another medium to light toned mottled softie for general purpose. I've done a lot of pairing of lighter and darker soft-hackles this past season, weather matching hatches or not. This might be a nice caddis or just good food stuff.

Hook: #16 wet fly hook
Thread: 14/0 orange thread
Hackle: light and mottled grouse shoulder hackle
Body: goose quill fibers twisted with pale yellow silk.

Thanks. I tie twists a lot for texture, durability and mottling. It's a good formula and maybe I'm in a rut, but it's working. I recommend it. Certainly gives a nymph-esque body tone and texture, and all the vitality of a spider. From black gnats to pale tan versions, they are great imitations and general flies.

I haven't posted much in recent months, mostly because I've been dialing in what's working and just tying them in piles. There's a time for just experimenting, but I've been focused on stuff you've all seen before. If my threads seem redundant at times, so is my tying. I'll try to do more photography soon.

I do have some special photo projects coming up that will unfold in coming weeks. Something I'm kind of excited about.
