Woodcock and Hare Flymph

It's been a while since I've posted patterns, mostly because I've been tying the same flies, making sure I have essentials stocked in perfect rows. I usually tie my go-to hare's ear flymph pattern, Grouse and Hare, with a darker grouse hackle. I tied a pile of these using woodcock and I like the results. I've tied my hare's ear flymph as a Partridge and Hare for years as well. I can't say I noticed a difference. This stack has a reddish copper wire in place of the gold or copper, but this is essentially the same fly.

14/0 brown thread
woodcock hackle
hare's ear blend mixed from several different masks
fine red-copper wire rib.











None of the flies I'll be posting this week were intended to be photographed so warts and all.

That wire rib just seems to compliment the Hare, but also contrast it enough to lend a lifelike appearance.

These would go nicely with my traditional Hare and Copper nymphs! I like to see wire ribs in gold, silver and copper in my box. Just perfect to drag behind a caddis dry.

Great looking fly and I like the judicious use of the hare's ear and subtle taper. Did you use American or English Woodcock? I have both but am running low on American Woodcock since I haven't hunted in years.
