Tups Indispensible (Steelhead Flymph)
Tups Indispensible (Steelhead Flymph)
Hook - Mustad Salmon Hook (2HX/3XL) - Model SL73UBLN-36890 (Size 8)
Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Lt. Cahill)
Hackle - Metz #1 Hen Hackle (Dun)
Tag - Danville Narrow Mylar Tinsel (Silver - Size 16/18)
Tail - Small bundle of Hen Hackle Fibers (Dun)
Body - UNI-Yarn (Sun Yellow)
Thorax - Mike Valla's Tups Wool Dubbing Blend
NOTE: The hackle fibers were stripped from one side to make hackle collar sparser, allowing the abdomen shows thru.
The materials are listed in the order they are tyed onto the hook. They look a bit jumbled, but this is a very efficient order to tye the fly. The finished fly should be very durable, since the hackle steam has been buried in the tups dubbing and then counter wrapped with the tying thread. I look forward to testing this pattern out on some steelhead this fall.

That's really cool, Ray. All of the classic Tups components impeccably tied in flymph form and "larger than life." Should attract a lot of attention from the steelies.

Thanks Bill. The photo is a bit deceptive, regarding the size. The fly is tyed on a size 8 hook. The hook is almost exactly the size of a US quarter, end to end. I really like this size hook.

Classy dressing, Ray. That should bring some chrome to hand. Unfortunately, we are having drought conditions here in western WA. The rivers are low and warm, meaning the steelhead and salmon are stacking up in the salt waiting for rain to bring the rivers up and cool them down. Hoot owl conditions on my local rivers. Hopefully, things will be better for the winter run.

Classic letumgo pattern. Good luck this fall chasing all that silver.
