Pritt's No.11 March Brown

I was tying up some March Brown's and thought I would filter through some of Pritt's patterns. Here is Pritt's No.11 pattern. I took creative license with the hook and the winging method. Wing is rolled and slightly split.

Hook: Owner Mainstream Hook #4. Often used for tenkara, about a #14 with extra large gap
Thread: Pearsall's silk thread, antique gold
Wing: partridge tail fibers, particularly the fibers with the banding pattern
Hackle: from the back of a partridge
Tail: from the tail of a partridge, very sparse
Rib: yellow silk thread
Body: hare mixed with yellow mohair, lightly dubbed as to allow the thread to come through

That's very nice Carl, you tie a mean fly.

Carl - You do nice work. Taking a simple fishing fly and elevating it to an art form. I'd fish this pattern in a heartbeat, but also be tempted to put a copy in a frame. I may just print out one of your photos and then try to replicate the fly for fishing.

Makes me think "Is it spring yet? Hurry up already!"

Very nicely dressed Carl.I am very fond of the March Brown in its many variations, some of them
very regional.Courtney Williams "Dictionary of Trout Flies," 1950, has a large section devoted to the March Brown.
I used it for a lot of the info on my site. a very, very useful book.
