Fall Caddis Fade

Post by Old Hat » Sat Aug 16, 2014 9:36 am

Here is another pattern from that series that I call the Fades. In a variety of color combos, this basic pattern scheme has become my go to flymph pattern over the past year. Here is an October or Fall Caddis pattern. This uses a mix of squirrel and seal dubbing blends for the body and thorax. Pearl tinsel or shrimp skin for the rib. Blue dun dyed partridge for the hackle.

Much less technical than yours, but I will be giving these a try in the next few weeks. I had assorted hooks on my desk and used them up on October Caddis variations.

Your fine tying skills are on display with that pattern sir.

I might have to try a couple of those Fox Poopah style patterns again. I like the looks of them and they are simple enough to tie, but have never had much luck with them. It's been years and I haven't tried them on my home water since I moved here.

I never had luck with the "Fox Poopah" either. I did have luck with Caddis emergers using ultra chenille as an abdomen/tail this past Spring.

Sweet. An effective pattern im sure. Like the blue dun partridge. Have you dyed that yourself?

Carl, this is a fantastic fly in every way. I love that body and the spectral combo. Beautifully tied.

Carl, That will do well this fall on steelhead and SRC's when those big October Caddies are about.

Thanks all.

I did dye the partridge, but it's not my thing. I love the hackle and the way it turned out but have been trying to find someone to do it for me.

Carl - What hook do you use for the Fade series?

Would you be interested in doing a step-by-step tutorial for us?

I been studying fade flies you sent me as extras, in one of our swaps. They are going into a frame, hopefully today.
