No Challenge - Just More Snowshoe

Post by tie2fish » Wed Dec 17, 2014 2:15 pm

Taking a cue from Ray's comment about blending my purple dyed snowshoe with something greyish dun in color, I mixed up a 50/50 combo of the purple snowshoe and some grey wallaby (again courtesy of Jeff "Matura Mayfly" Smith via William Anderson) and then spun a few bodies on a Clark block ..

After which I subbed the result for the muskrat/blue wool blend body on a Pete Hidy Medium Blue Dun flymph ...

Fan-friggin-tastic. Great combination of materials and that purple spun on what looks like straw or primrose looks really good. Nice one Bill. :)

Great looking flymph Bill!
I think the colors chosen are excellent.

Can we call this "Bill's Wallaby Wabbit Flymph", or simply your "Wallaby Thumper"?

Gosh that's a pretty fly...

Bill, that''s a really nice subtle combination. I'm sure it's a blend that is worth looking into further. Honestly, I've mixed all kinds of natural dubbings for some variations in texture and result, but snowshoe...that's a new one and a blending potential. The characteristics must be fantastic. Now to give them a try. Your Hidy flymphs are just spot on.

Now, if you were to go fish that somewheres in troutville USA- what would be the odds you are the only guy there fishing a fly made from the feet of near Arctic dwelling Hares and Arid/Tropical South Pacific marsupial blended together? Not to mention fishing it wet!

Another beauty Bill, fantastic classic lines, impeccable execution and grand colour blend. Go to the top of the class. ;)

Many thanks, guys. When I started thinking about what hatches this pattern might work for, I decided that the colors called for a smaller version -- one that would suit a late sulfur or larger BWO hatch. The version below is tied on a Size #16 Mustad 94842 and is the largest "fully dressed" flymph of which I have tied more than one. I'll be filling a little box with more of these ...

I like the looks of this even better. The proportions are exceptional. Very impressive style.

Bill,
Absolutely gorgeous patterns! The colors are the big draw - at least to me - aside from your impeccable execution of said materials! The last one has an almost pinkish cast to it despite the wallaby and hares feet (purple). My goodness what a great blending of these materials. I also love the texture of each. Maybe the hares feet fur is the secret ingredient that I have been looking for all these years!
I can see you in my mind....subtracting hard fished trout out of the "Museum Pool" and making it look easy!
Keep'm coming Bill! I do not want this creativity to end....ever!
Still Reeling D.
Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
