Pupa in Pink
Staying with the "pink" theme. I found some peacock that was dyed "shrimp". All the pink discussion, and I came up with this. It has caught a few already this year, so I know it works...
Thread: black
Body: peacock dyed shrimp
Hackle: light dun hen
Head: brown/olive seal dubbing

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Looks pretty convincing. Never saw herl like that. Size 16?
Re: Pupa in Pink
#16 and #14's. I think the #14's have fished a bit better.

Re: Pupa in Pink
That looks good enough that I went in search of Shrimp pink dyed peacock herl.
Apparently, Australian ladies like it on their hats, lol.
I did find a few items from arts/crafts suppliers, but don't know if they are color-fast or not. After an incident with blue fingers from a purchase of craft store bought marabou... There is also the small matter of having a dozen 12" (30 cm) herl sticks to store.

Re: Pupa in Pink
Carl there are dozens of flies that I believe could serve as absolute standards in anyone's box. This definitely has all the makings of a permanent pattern. The shape, texture, mobility and materials should present very well. Love the pink version with the seal head. I can imagine this in a few color combinations would be fantastic.

Re: Pupa in Pink
Carl - A "catchy" combination (peacock herl, seal, and dun hen hackle). Lovely pattern, and one that I would like to test on spring creeks. It looks like it would be a nice little scud imitation. The construction reminds me a lot of the "Mother's Day Caddis" pattern.

Re: Pupa in Pink
Thank you gentlemen. It's a decent fly, really just to play with the pink. Our Mother's Day caddis are a nice green color and I have done well with a similar design for the MD hatch. I was thinking scud as well Ray. I don't really have a lot of scud water nearby but I do know of one to try it on soon. I will have to give it a go there. I am growing rather fond of pinkish colored flies. Not sure why the color seems so attractive. This pattern has a nice contrast with the dark head, light hackle and body which I like on flies.

Nice fly Old Hat!
My W. E. Pink Flymph was accepted as a scud on the Crooked a few days ago just as I expected.

That's the water I was thinking about Bill. I'm spending a week in C.O soon. Serious fishing ahead!

Hi Carl,
Nice fly and modification of the Mothersday caddis. Think of changing it a bit for fishing in the winter.
