Wayne those caddis are lovely looking. I've always wanting to try to tie up something like that but never got around to it. You may have given me the push I need!

I would love to see a step by step on how this pattern is tied. ;)

I really liked these flies. I can see the fishing really going haywire over them. Thanks for sharing!

I have been eyeing the patterns that use ultra chenille as an extended abdomen for quite a few years. I think the first pattern I noticed using the technique was a "Fox's Pupa" or something like that. I have no reason why I have not tried to incorporate it in to my patterns until a few weeks ago. The extended body fits nicely with the split thread technique.
Hi Wayne,

I know the technique from the Palomina midge from an article in the Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. If you like the idea I can do my best to find the article. You inspired me to tie a Cadis Pupa myself. Here is a picture of the Palomina midge and one of my caddis pupa:

Ruard, your tying skills are superb. Your version of the pupa is stunning. I hope the fish you pursue with the pupa are as eager to take it as the trout I have been catching are. I have only fished the pupa style the last two trips, but the fly has brought many trout to the net in that short time.
Again Ruard, fantastic tying skills .

I don't know about the roach and the rudd, Ruard, but trout would go nuts for these. Beautiful flies!

Ruard - Beautiful flies. I like the difference between the TDE and the straight eye version. The upcurved tail makes the second version look jaunty (compliment). I love them both, and could not pick a favorite.

This fly style seem to be everywhere now that I have taken notice. Seems a lot of people have had a lot of success both as hatch matching and attractors. When I tied mine in Jan, http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5465 I swear I didn't recall seeing these, but they are referenced in lots of contexts. I just don't get out much. I guess I should pay more attention. I've not fished one yet, that I recall, but when the time is right I'll have to give them drift.

Wayne and Ruard, exceptional tying for a very eye catching pattern.

Yes it has become popular. The ease with which it is tyed and the way it goes hand in hand with the split thread technique and Soft Hackle is what ultimately made me want to try it. That and it is so dang easy to tye.
