Re: Lemonsuckle
Tim, this looks like a fly that could occupy a row in my box. I know for some presentations the glassier hackle is desirable. I usually look for more webby hackle, but then I know there is a time and place for each construction. Nicely done.
No room for comment on the hook. I can't tell from the pic if this is a very dark hook or if it's the shading in the image. Personally, I prefer a lighter bronze or even more crystal finish for lighter colored flies and reserve the dark hooks for dark flies. It may be just an aesthetic thing, but it makes sense to me that presenting a lighter impression could be compromised by offering a dark iron. Then again, if you look through my flies, you'll very likely find I contradict myself often. I'm fine with that too. But in the past couple of years I have tried to consider the hook finish especially when patterns become more sparse.
No issues fishing this one. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Perphaps I'll stick with sunlight
If you are fine with variance and choosing your moments, stick with daylight.
If you want to take control, go artificial light with a couple lamps. Unlike when we shot film, most digital cameras allow custom white balance and searching for a specific color temp lamp/bulb/tube is no longer a priority. I shoot all my flies using very cheap lamps and manual white balance - with absolute color representation.

Re: Lemonsuckle
William, thanks for the hook colour comments.
That's a reasoned approach and one I will try when enough hook choice allows.
This particular hook is black.
Our local range of barbless hooks is very limited and my overseas orders only arrive in drips and drabs. Grip hooks are available here now and I've been very impressed with them.
On a different matter, who is using UV type dubbing (like this) and what are your fishing results with it?

How hard can it be?
Re: Lemonsuckle
I really like the darker hook, a lot actually. I would be curious to see how the silk would act when wet. Wonder how much of that shank would "bleed" through.
Is that a desired effect?

Premerger, Howdy;
Tim, I'm thinkin' that was a very, very, very subtle hint
for a shot of the fly while it's wet ...

Smuggler and hankaye, Here's a soaked Lemonsuckle
Tied a few variations with olive Veevus 16/0. These may suit the dark hook better

Premerger, Howdy;
Thanks for the wet shot. The abdomen really darkens up
doesn't it.
