Rodger - You brought a smile to my face. Glad to hear the flies worked for you. Very cool.

swellcat - I recommend mashing down the barb on any fly you intend to use to fish for crappies, bluegill, panfish, etc. They often engulf the fly and end up getting hooked deep. Barbless hooks make it easy to remove the fly and release the fish.

Barbless hooks make it easy to remove the fly and release the fish.
Also easier to release the errant caster.

. . . looks like just the ticket for the spring white bass run . . .
My exact thoughts. Crappie are sort of winter targets-of-opportunity before the whites show up.

Swellcat, your fly . . .
You can call him "Ray"—as in Ray's fly, not mine . . . yet—reposted from the front of the thread.

What size . . . for crappie?
How about tens, a size I might be able to see with the naked eye?

Twelves? Eights? What are your thoughts?

I don't know what size for Crappie. I haven't gone after crappie with a fly before. I used to fish a little for them when I was a kid. We have an arm of the Snake River that is supposed to be great crappie fishing not far from here. That's why I was wondering.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

I've tied these in sizes 14 up to size 2. I've had good luck with panfish on sizes 8 and 10. If you tie some and field test them, let us know how they work. I'd like to hear which size you find works best on crappies.

I'd go at least 8's. Crappie feed mainly on baitfish. I've caught thousands (literally) on a size 6 streamer.

Let's see that streamer . . . in the Cabin, if need be.
