In case anyone is curious, here is a photo of my Valley (California) Quail skin.
I used the one of the tiny feathers along the back of the neck, to hackle my fly.
The feathers in the middle of the back are larger and are a darker dun color, with an olive green cast to them.
The feathers along the rump (each side of the tail), have cream colored sides and dark center list.
Underneath the wing you will find some interesting feathers with a white center strip. The quills and under coveret feathers are a light bluish dun.
