Not a pity but a Petey. But you don't fool me - I recognize the vice.Nice.

That hook goes perfectly with this pattern. You are getting more Pete like in your tying! Keep up the good work!

Bill this really looks like it could have fallen out of the wallet. Nice job in lots of regards. Every detail. Spot on. This is really fun to see. Thanks for posting these and keep up the exploration. If you could catch a pic of your bodies before you wrap them, I'd be curious to see them. I am fussing with some different tapers and fiber blends.
Love this stuff.

I mentioned this to Lance and got a momentary silence on the other end of the line, but I've been fooling around with double-tapered brushes for tying the Hidy patterns. As Lance has pointed out, one of the distinguishing characteristics of Pete's flies is the cigar-shaped body, and I have found that it is easier for me to replicate this profile with a spun brush that tapers on both ends -- a bit less so on the front than the back. Maybe this is "cheating", but it works for me. For what it's worth, I also have fewer problems with keeping stray fibers out of the head/eye area with a brush that is less bushy on the front end.

Not cheating at all. Great idea.

Bill,
This pattern is awesome! Yes, it looks more "Pete-like" (you are really coming along on this!) for sure but it looks more like the natural than ever before! Make a dozen instead of a half dozen! Surely he had other favorites that you could master!
Simply blown away with your talents and abilities,

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
