Partridge and Hare's Ear
Hook: Daiichi 1550, #14
Thread: Uni-thread, tan, 8/0
Hackle: Partridge
Body: Dubbed hare's ear
Rib: Lagartun varnished french tinsel, oval, fine
This is my favorite soft hackle fly. I have caught innumerable trout with it at all times of the day. It is a great searching fly swung wet, but also a terrific damp fly fished in the film on a dead drift.

Re: Partridge and Hare's Ear
If I could only fish one soft hackled pattern, this would be my choice. Tough to beat this combination. Clearly deserving of the title classic.

That is a lot more refined than the version I tie, perhaps that is why it is not featured on my top 10 list .
I might have to aim for more slender proportions and see what the locals think.

This is a beautiful pattern, Tom. Your testimonial about its effectiveness has prompted me to put it on my list of things to tie up for next spring.

Tom, I've come back to this one more than a few times. Just nicely done. Thanks.
