Orange Fish Hawk variation
Okay I finally have a set of these tied up. I did not have enough badger hen for the fly. So I used Greenwell hen instead. I had India hen in badger, but it really didn't seem to be enough in the right size. So what did I do? I ordered more of it...lol. It is in the freezer, and will go in the moth ice box. Then I will try it. But just in case I don't like it as much, I still have these already tied up for the Mark L swap. The reddish tips actually go better with the orange to me, than the regular, natural badger hen, that I have. Oh, and I tied a keeper for the floss. You can see it on the top. I learned that little tidbit from Don Bastian. This is the first time I've tried that.

Lovely version, Kelly.

Nicely done. I agree that Greenwell hackle seems to work better on this fly. At least the fish that I've tried on think so.

Re: Orange Fish Hawk variation
Thanks Ray! Bob, so you tried the Greenwell on this same pattern??? AWESOME. So I did do a good substitute then.
I am still gonna try the badger. But I plan to fish both, and see what the fish think too. Different places may prefer one color, over the other...only one way to find out. I like the keeper for smaller flies. I am not sure about a larger fly, since I haven't tried that. It keeps the floss from sliding back. I was going to get on the Lil' Dorothy pattern today, but never got around to it. My cat has been sick for over a week. That has kept me busy. I'm not sure if she is out of the woods yet, but time will tell.
