A work in progress test fly #1...
Mustad 94840 #18 with an olive goose biot body, silver lined crystal bead, starling hackle and olive UTC 70 thread.

Sorry about the image quality, I am without my "photo studio" at the moment.

Looks good. I know a couple guys on the west side that swear by those crystal bead thoraxes.

More than a perhaps considering that during egg laying by some Baetis both adult females and some males submerge themselves. Otherwise there are times when some Bling works on a fly.

Bill L, I like your pattern. I tried years ago to get those beads on a few flies and for whatever reason I only tried it on hooks that wouldn't allow them around the bend. I must have not tried enough hooks. These right at home on your Mustads.

Wow, that is an impressive pattern. Have you looked at the pattern under water? I am curious to know how visible the bead remains under water. I have not fished with these beads before, so any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Ray this style of tie has worked well for me on my transitional flymph http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ead#p23306. I suspect the bead visibility depends on the available light just like it was a Mylar wrap.

Other than a few glass caddis, scuds, and saltwater ties; most of my work with glass beads has been done with chironomids and has widespread use there among tyers. Some of them are "go to" patterns for me. I can't seem to find it right now but somewhere I have Joe Warren's book that I bought years ago and found very helpful. http://globalflyfisher.com/reviews/book ... .php?id=11.
