After work

Well, I celebrated Labor Day by working but after work I managed to fish a small stream not far away. The water was not too high following recent rains and the weather was pleasant enough. I managed some rainbows on a #16 soft hackled fly. Here is a picture of the fly and I hope not everyone had to work today. Sorry for the bad picture but its from my cell phone and I'm sitting in my car

Otto, when you get a few minutes, off like to hear about your water and your presentation. I absolutely love this fly pic. The fly is great, actually fantastic. But a quick shot with your phone in the moment. we should do more of that. Great post. ...now back to work.

I am sorry but I don't know how much better this picture is going to be. My camera was acting up and the lens was dirty but perhaps next time I will do better. I was fishing a mountain stream that has a section roughly 100 yards long that is a bit wider than most I fish, perhaps 30 to 40 ft in width. This section is one continuous riffle with a few plunge pools. I was fishing this fly down and across. The copper wire is heavy enough (that is why I braid the wire) to keep the fly down and most takes were happening towards the end of the drift.

Hook: Allen barbless #16 nymph hook
Tail: Pheasant tail
Ribbing: Extra small copper wire (self-braided)
Body: Wound pheasant tail
Thorax: Mole dubbing
Hackle: Hungarian partridge

Thanks Otto, nice colouration on the Pheasant barbs and the rest of the materials compliment well to become an effective looking pattern.
