Daring Duffer Series - Spider One and Two
Stefan sent a few more flies for posting and here are a couple of wonderful spiders. Again, I'll wait for Stefan to add his comments. These are really nice and sparse. I'm wishing my photography were up to speed to show off the quality of the hackles. Very nicely done.

Just elegant in their simplicity.
Thanks for posting those.

What CC said. One would be hard pressed to dress a sparser fly. Love them.

I don't know much about these types of flies but they are sparse and simple!
I'm guessing that's the aim, and that these are good examples of the art.

The perfect study of minimalist simplicity!

Good examples of a Stewart styled spider pattern.
Fishing these on a short line upstream, just on or in the surface would make them really sing. I predominently use this type of pattern in one scenario. Small stream pocket water. This style has worked well for me in places where the water is somewhat fast and working its way through boulders and hidden pockets. These are the places where you are not going get but a 2 second drift. Any water where the current imparts a lot of movement and drag on other flies and the fish don't get much time make a decision. This would go for areas just below instream boulders on larger rives as well.

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Lovely delicate flies.

Excellent ties. My best fly last year was a black Stewart spider; I also had good luck with an all-orange one.

All credit should go to the designer. I just tied them. It was the evening when I needed to try my pet Iron Dun cape. Up-stream on a short line is what they are intended for. The other night I treated 15' of braided dacron line with a bath in Watershed. I will try it on a 13' trotting rod in a semi-Webster way, using a reel on the rod. I know a part of the stream I mentioned in the CDC emerger (IOBO) post with a lot of boulders and a lot of non-grayling trout. They will teach me how to do it. They are small and wild.
Your comments are appreciated. I just love this kind of flies and the link to the past.
