A brown on a soft hackle..

Post by Johnno » Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:39 pm

Not my largest on a SH but certainly the fattest... and one of the top three or four for me for this little stream.

See the rock upstream and next to it to our left is a little stick pointing into the water. I cast back over my left shoulder (willows for Africa to my right) and put the fly up into the gap and the drift down was past the boulder into those gnarly little currents one finds downstream of such things. It was a pure prospecting cast - no fish seen - it just looked....fishy.

Pure fluke, but the little Partridge and Green came to the party. A swirl, a tighten and then four jumps and a coupe of runs later.....

A very pleased person was I. :D Rod is an 8 foot 4 wgt Penn. 6X tippet. 8-)

Beautiful fish, John! Looks like one heck of a cast you made. Congratulations and thanks for taking us along.

Good Lord, Johnno. You are in a really nice spot there. Beautiful catch. Thanks for posting that.

:o Was it a full count, two outs, bottom of the ninth inning, because you threw that right in there. Nice cast, and fish, I agree that spot was crying out fishy.

Very nice fish Johnno, and hardly a fluke. You knew what to look for and where to put the fly, and boy did it pay off. That's a fine fat fellow for a four weight.
