The Feather Emporium

Post by fflutterffly » Tue Dec 25, 2012 11:03 pm

I am totally captivated by the headers website. I've been trying to sit still long enough to read each page, look at the photo's and learn about the different breeders. And then I cam across this: buff laced polish frizzle or Buff Laced Frizzle Polish. Either way this is a very interesting bird. Has anyone tied with this feather? As I've always said, "I am the ordinary living amongst the extraordinary." One thing that is so marvelous about this website is the educational value. I have learned more in one evening about the different types of birds than in years of tying. I don't profess to ever want to be like many of the great tiers on this forum, but rather to be a better educated pedestrian along the road.

I have not tried that feather that you mentioned. He does have interesting stuff on his website. I am very interested also in the barnyard chickens.

It looks like they took a ride in a tumble dryer. Probably the Rodney Dangerfield of the chicken world. It'd be hard to get respect with plumage like that. POOF!

I grew up with a kid that raised those funky chickens. He had one of the birds that had a physical problem and every time it got excited it would faint. Needless to say, as a preteen brat I would find every opportunity I could to "scare the bird" and laugh my rear off when it fell over....good thing I didn't fly tie then or the bird would have woke up naked...

I was just reading this the other day and found it interesting: http://flypatternsfortrout.com/2012/12/ ... streamers/. I also enjoyed the article about the Partridge L3AS spider hook on the same website. Bill

Bill - Thank you very much for that link. I love tying featherwing streamers, but it is hard to find good hackle suitable for the wings. These look perfect. I am partial to the blunt shape, with pronounced webbing along the center. Perfect for baitfish imitations.
