That is very nice, Rodger. The contrast between the light abdomen and dark hackle is striking, and I can just imagine how beautifully the thread color will "bleed" through when this gets wet. A great Christmas Day present for all of us .

Like Ray, I am always struck by the beauty of these "simple" patterns. I really like this one. I don't know how long you thought about the color choices for this one, but they are spot on. Wonderful dressing.

Rodger, a very fine offering. Has all the "like" features, the hint of a tag with the first thread wraps, glowing translucent body, soft cloaking hackle and an almost hot-spot head. A fine fishing fly.

Great combination of colours. But what is the colour of the wool in the thorax?

Thanks guys. Yes, I really like simple patterns. I guess I don't have the patience (or more likely, the ability) to attack the intricate ones, and I don't feel bad about losing one to the occasional tree branch.

Donald - The wool in the thorax is a dark charcoal color (thanks, Ray) mixed with a small amount of antron in the coffee grinder.
Fortunately, my wife upgraded to a nicer grinder a few years ago when she noticed the morning coffee was tasting a bit fuzzy. I got the hand-me-down, and the morning coffee actually does taste better.

I also like the "speckled" brown, and use it a lot in my tying, and have noticed when something is labeled as "speckled brown ", the shade of brown varies wildly from very dark brown to very light brown. That's OK, it gives one more options.

Beautifully done. This combo, in just these materials, worked wonders for me a bit ago on Spring Creek in central PA, in a number of presentations, taking a couple tricky fish in very differnt water without moving my feet. The simplicity and the versatility. I just love this pattern. I'm with you and the quick ties. I like them better, and it hurts less to lose them.
