BP² Flymph (Prince Nymph - Flymph Variation)

BP² Flymph (pronounced Bee Pee Squared)
Hook - Mustad Model R50/94848 (Size 12)
Thread - Pearsall's Gossamer Silk (Ash/No. 10)
Hackle - Silver Badger Hen Neck Feather (Natural) - prepared by stripping all the fibers from the right side
Thorax - Five Strands of Peacock Herl (Natural)
Tail - Four Pheasant Tail Fibers (Natural)

B = Badger (Silver)
P = Peacock
P = Pheasant Tail

This fly was tyed in the same manner as the one called out in my flymph tutorial. Very simple construction. Quick and easy to tye. Hopefully a productive fly, ta boot.

It looks like a strange colour combination..... to me...... but it works and works well. You have the thorax wrap of your hackle well and truly sussed. Mine look nowhere near that nice- on a good day!
For natural PT it sure has a nice even and bright shade to it, I had to read the recipe twice to make sure it wasn't dyed.

Handsome fly. That body / Thorax combination is great.

Jeff - My trick to get the hackle looking like this is first to strip off one side. Once the fly is finished, I firmly pinch the throrax area to help set the slant of the hackle fibers. After a couple good pinches (top-to-bottom and side-to-side), the hackle fibers tend to behave and set back at a nice angle. That's it, not hard at all.

Jon - I need to save the name "Prince Flymph" for a purple version. Now that would be cool! (Oh wait, then I would have to call it "The Flymph Formerly Known as Prince")

That might help Ray, I had been doubling them, plus using some pretty soft fibred feathers and trapping a lot of fibres bringing the thread forward..... I will work on it.
You can only have your Purple Prince Flymph if it is wearing a Raspberry Beret.

Ray, another beautiful combination. Your comments on giving your hackle a particular set come to bare. As I spent more time than I should have dunking flies from my box today and watching as those hackles which were convinced to cooperate didn't move from their position like others that fell into place naturally. You could see it in the thread wraps and the head. I stroke the fibers back from the rear, but after seeing the instantaneous action of some hackles vs. others, I may be less insistent about getting just the right set.

Not that it would apply to your beautiful thorax hackle wraps. Just the comment reminded me of what I saw today.
