I dubbed the body by wrapping it from the front of the fly towards the back. This allowed me to form the tag and rib when the thread was wrapped forward.

I had initially used the silk dubbing thinking the dubbing would float the fly in the surface film (emerger imitation). When I dropped the fly in a dish of water, however, I found that the dubbing would absorb water and sink below the surface. I really like the look of the body when it is wet. It has a great translucency to it, as I guess you'd expect from silk.

I will experiment with different color combinations of Pearsall's and Silk Dubbing, to see what I can come up with...

I really like this pattern and especially the "wet shot". Let's do this on every (or at least every other) pattern posted. What a difference it makes to just add water!

Like everyone else has mentioned, this fly looks just great! The silk thread color really works well with it too! Maybe I'm not very observant, but I don't remember seeing or hearing about that type of dubbing before. I Googled it and it's no wonder that you thought it would float. Did you buy it online or from a local shop? Just when you think you've got enough of something, another must have item pops up! I copied what it states about this dubbing from their web site.

Kreinik Silk Dubbing is natural 100% pure silk. The fibers of the silk dubbing are very fine and long. This fine fiber structure makes this silk dubbing ideal for the bodies of flies from size 16 to the very smallest (26-28).

Silk is hydrophobic, meaning it is naturally water resistant. It will float higher and longer than the various poly type dubbings because it has a lower specific gravity and it takes longer for water to wick through the fibers. Silk readily accepts acid type dyes and can also be colored with marking pens. The available colors will meet the needs of the majority of popular dry fly and nymph patterns, such as Adams, Blue-winged Olives, Drakes, Hare’s Ears, Hendricksons and Sulphurs.
