With all the inspiring Iso posts recently I decided to have a go. I tried a number of variations and material combinations, but this wiggle pattern seemed the most compelling of the bunch. My first try at a wiggle pattern. They are more involved than most anything I tie, but the wiggle is pretty appealing. The tinsel rib is a nod to the traditional Red Hackle pattern that I believe is associated with the Iso's. It's a stretch, but it was my way of avoiding the literal lateral stripe.

Hooks: front - Daiichi 1510 #14, rear - cheap Eagle Claw streamer hook
Connection: mono
Thread: 14/0 brown
Tail: Brahma Hen Saddle - dyed March Brown
Rib: Gold Tinsel
Rear Dubbing: dubbing blend including seal, hare, flash, antron and some manufactured nymph blend brown, maroon, tan and black mixed light.
Hackle: Brahma Hen Saddle - dyed March Brown
Thorax Dubbing: same, mixed dark

Hank - I think it is for legal reasons. I do not think New York state fishing regs allow tandem hooks, but I could be wrong...

William - BRAVO!!! Holy smokes man, those are incredible. Remind me not to let you fish ahead of me at Roscoe. I have a strong feeling that I would be fishing barren waters.

I can show you a neat trick with jewlery wire, that will save you from having to destroy a hook for the wiggle tail. I will try to find the old post showing how to make extensions with just jewlery wire, a rotary vice and a paper-clip (MacGyver style).

Hank, I would have decided against two hook points, if it had even occurred to me. It didn't and if it were a large fly and legal to do it, I just might. Having never tied a wiggle pattern before, I saw 3-4 ways to make them when I looked around, and this seemed the most feasible for me.

Ray, seeing your wiggle pattern and Jon's link to the swimming nymph on the troutnut site (I'll get that and post it, it's very convincing), I knew the pattern would be dynamic, even worth the extra time for me. I followed the link for your SBS regarding the craft wire, but the pics are all missing, unless there is a link for another location. I'd love to see it, although I don't have an in-line rotary vise. These tied on a paperclip makes sense in it's own right. Hadn't thought of that. I was happy to use these cheap streamer hooks that I've had for ages.

FWIW the fly will wiggle side to side instead of up and down. Wiggle nymphs are good for hex's which wiggle side to side.

You might want to put a white stripe on top of the body as Eastern Iso's have it. Moose mane works great , you can secure it on top of the body when you wrap your tinsle, we used gold wire.

though I foresee a problem with you "hatch-matchers" out there in that you could never prove a fish wasn't taking it as a small crayfish.

You could also use small cotterpins, instead of making these.
