Benicchi Thread

John, I took a quick pic of one of the Baetis I tyed with the new thread. Sorry about the quality.

Never before have I been able to use Mico Tubing or small D-Rib on a 1x size 20 hook. Because the Bennici thread doesnt bulk up, I was able to.

Baetis Emerger
Tail- Wood Duck
Hook- Mustad 3906
Thread- Bennici Olive
Rib- Small D-Rib Clear
Thorax- Mahogany Dubbing Xfine
Wing- Foam
Legs- Wood Duck.



Until now I have always left the abdomen as thread. This is a generic baetis nymph/emerger I use quite a bit. The color combinations are endless, although Olive, Gray, and Mahogany seem to be the colors I use the most.

Wayne - Terrific fly! This fly clearly demonstrates the advantage of thread with fine diameter. After reading thru this post, and seeing this fly, I plan to try some of this thread in the future. Have you used the thread long enough to have an opinion on thread breakage? Have you had any problems with thread breakage when using such fine diameter thread? I have had good luck with Gudebrod's 10/0, but I started having some breakage issues when using UNI's Trico 17/0 (especially if the thread grazed the hook point). Just curious to know if you've had any challenges using the Benicchi.

Hackle: Furnace hen.

Tummel Greenwell Spider
Hook: #12 Varivas 2200 BL
Bead: Orange 2.0 mm.
Recipe same as above minus thorax.

After reading about Benicchi thread, I remembered I had some that I had
never tried. I like it a lot. I shall try a few more with it.

Good looking flies Wayne, and Donald! As far as breakage, I don't think for 12/0 that it breaks too easily. It is pretty strong thread. I am notorious for breaking thread by the way, and I rarely break this Benecchi thread.

Ray, I have had the thread just over 24 hours. In that time I tyed 18 flies. I didnt have any breakage. I am so impressed with it, and the Griffiths thread, I doubt I will ever buy another Uni 8/0 again.
Thanks for the compliment on the pattern. It took a few fish today, but nothing like a size 18 Gray and Black Soft Hackle tyed in Bills (tie2fish' )style, and with the new Grizzly hen hackle I bought. I need a name for that style.

I dont have any pictures of it yet.

Thank you Kelly for the kind words. I am pretty sure you are right about the Benicci thread. I dont see any problems with it.
